Scooby and Chronic Kidney Disease

Meet Scooby, who I have been treating for well over two years (actually it’s been a lot lot longer than that since Scooby came into my life). Just under 2 years ago, Scooby’s owner contacted me as he’d been diagnosed with early stage kidney disease as well as a urinary tract infection. We tweaked his raw diet, started him on Chinese herbs for his urinary infection as well as his kidney disease, which were added in alongside antibiotics which were determined by his conventional vet based on culture and sensitivity (you know I’m all about the integrative medicine, so let’s use our whole toolbox!) and utilised omega 3 oils as well to additionally support his kidneys.

Fast forward to now and Scooby is doing so well! He had recent routine blood work and the results show a lovely stable picture for his kidney disease and a very happy Scooby, owner and conventional vet, who has said we are to just keep on doing what we’re doing!

What I love about Scooby’s case is how we have taken my larger toolbox and utilised other components within it to really support this lovely lad and keep him stable. Herbs can be a super adjunct for kidney disease; depending on the type of kidney disease present we will reach for different combinations of herbs , but diagnosing and monitoring with blood work and urine means we can hone in on the disease type (inflammatory vs ischaemic for those who are interested ) and then pick accordingly.
